Fort Nepean

Här följer lite bilder från vår dagstripp till Fort Nepean.  Fortet byggdes 1882 och användes ända till slutet av andra världskriget. Det var en ganska lång promenad om man går hela vägen ut till tippen som vi gjorde. Men det är väldigt fint och ganska intressant historia. Väl värt ett besök tycker jag.

Here you can see some pictures from our Fort Nepean trip. The fort was built in 1882 and was in service until end of World war II. In that time, its guns fired just two shots. The walk from the parking place was quite long. But we really enjoyed it, all the way out to the very end of the peninsula. Its a beautiful walk. Worth a visit if you havn´t been there yet

Fort Nepean was a critical part of Victoria’s defences from the 1880s until 1945. It was the largest and most heavily armed installation in the network of fortifications around the entrance to Port Phillip, and today remains an outstanding example of the evolution of gun technology and Australia’s early defence strategies.  The first shot of the British Empire in WWI and the first Australian shots of World War ll were fired from Fort Nepean, earning its entry in military history.  These battlements were modified and used right up until the end of World
